The following is a press release from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office sent out at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday:

“DRINKING WATER ADVISORY

“THE WASHINGTON STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH URGES CUSTOMERS OF THE BOISTFORT VALLEY WATER SYSTEM TO USE BOTTLED WATER, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.

“If bottled water is not available, boil the tap water 3-5 minutes or disinfect it with unscented household bleach (10 drops per gallon of water) and allow it to sit for five minutes before consuming it. Customers should use bottled or treated water until notified that their tap water is once again safe to drink.

“What Happened?

“Flood waters have damaged Boistfort Valley Water System water lines, and contaminants have entered the water system.

“Next Steps:

“The utility is working to repair the damaged water lines. Some of the water lines broken at bridges and river crossings may take significant time to replace.

“As the system is repaired, water samples will be collected and tested. This advisory will not be fully rescinded until there are two sets of five samples that have satisfactory results.

“The State Department of Health will continue to work with the Boistfort Valley Water System to ensure that safe and reliable drinking water is restored to the consumers.

“This advisory will remain in effect until lifted by the Washington State Department of Health, Office of Drinking Water.”
